Over the past few years there has been a few stories out about fraud involving rental properties. A recent story really stepped that up a notch. Someone is taking realtor information and trying to trick prospective renters into believing the house is a possible rental home.
I have a few suggestions:
1. Do not give any money to anyone asking thru a kijiji ad. I advertise my places on kijiji. Kijiji is not the problem, its only a tool that the bad people are using to try to fool you.
2. See a place in person with the people offering the house for rent. Do not give money upfront.
If you are renting and know the rental market remember on thing –
if the deal sounds to good to be true it usually is.
Check, double check and make sure its legit.
If you are buying a private sale make sure you run your offer through a lawyer before any money transfers hands.
99% of the people you run into are good honest people.
1% of people are bad but 1% ruins it for good people.
